The Truck to the Twister
We’re covering the Twister submission from the turtle position in grappling, outlining the necessary steps and techniques for effective control and submission.
The Twister submission is a powerful technique in grappling that can be executed from the turtle position. This blog post will break down the steps involved in performing the Twister, ensuring you understand the mechanics and control needed for success.
Understanding the Turtle Position
Before diving into the Twister submission, it’s essential to grasp the turtle position. In this position, one grappler is on all fours, while the other is in a position to attack or control. The turtle position offers various opportunities for submissions, and the Twister is one of the most effective.
Step-by-Step Guide to the Twister Submission
1. Initiating the Twister
To begin the Twister submission, start from the turtle position. Take your far leg and thread it through your opponent’s legs. This movement is crucial as it sets up the control needed for the submission.
2. Establishing Control
Once your leg is threaded through, grab your opponent’s shin with both hands. This grip will help you maintain control as you transition into the next phase of the submission.
3. Sitting Back
Next, sit back while straightening out your legs to form a triangle. This position allows you to secure your opponent effectively and prepares you for the next steps.
4. Pulling Your Opponent
From the triangle position, reach over and grab your opponent’s near shoulder. Pull them onto you to establish a dominant position. This movement is critical as it helps you to control their upper body.
5. Clearing the Head
Once you have your opponent pulled onto you, clear their head by grabbing their wrist. This action is necessary to prevent them from escaping and to set up the submission.
6. Positioning the Arm
Now, place your opponent’s arm behind your head through your arm. Grab their wrist with both hands for better control. This positioning is vital for executing the Twister effectively.
7. Switching Hands
Switch to your left hand while keeping your grip on your opponent’s wrist. This hand will now be free to swim through and pin your opponent’s arm down behind your back. This step is crucial as it immobilizes their arm, making it easier to complete the submission.
8. Finalizing the Submission
With your opponent’s arm pinned, reach back with your free hand to grab the back of their head. Then, reach over to secure a grip with an S-grip. This grip will allow you to stretch your opponent out, completing the Twister submission.
